Peru State senior Katlyn Donovan completes prestigious public health fellowship at UNMC

Katlyn Donovan

(Peru, Neb.) Peru State College (PSC) senior Katlyn Donovan recently completed the highly competitive and prestigious Great Plains Public Health Training Center Student Summer Fellowship Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Public Health.
During her fellowship, Donovan assisted rural Nebraska health departments educate citizens about cancer prevention and obesity. She developed and implemented plans and activities to respond to areas of need, prepared written reports for accreditation activities, and participated in outreach and case management services for populations with little access to care.
Donovan said, “Through my fellowship I was able to expand my knowledge about the public health field and all it offers. It also allowed me to gain ‘hands-on’ experience, which is a great addition to what I learned in the classroom at Peru State.”
Donovan, a Greeley native, is double majoring in sport and exercise science and K-12 physical education and is president of the Physical Education, Activities, and Kinesiology Students (PEAKS) of Peru. She is a member of the Bobcat volleyball team and is an NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete.
PSC Associate Professor of Education and Human Performance Lab Coordinator Kyle Ryan said, “Katlyn is indicative of what we have come to expect of the exercise science and physical education majors here at Peru State. She is very much aware of the opportunities available here that will assist her in her chosen career and is always willing to give back to the program without having to be asked. Katlyn has been an integral part of the success we have experienced within the major and in PEAKS, our academic club. It’s been a pleasure to have her as a student.”
Donovan is the daughter of Tom and Kathy Donovan of Greeley.
